U.S. Marshalls escorted rapper Ja Rule from Mid-State Correctional Facility in New York at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 after being released early from jail from a two year sentence for illegal gun possession.
However, he will have to serve additional time in federal custody in for not paying for taxes.
Ja Rule went to prison in June 2011.
Police said they found a .40-caliber semi-automatic gun in the rear of his luxury car. The gun was loaded.
Ja Rule pleaded guilty for the weapon possession.
In the taxes case, he owes $1.1 million of taxes and did not pay the IRS immediately.
During a federal court case in March 2011, Ja Rule admitted to owning $3 million in taxes from 2004 to 2006.
Due to his celebrity status, Ja Rule was held in an isolated prison.
