X-Static Radio: 2013 Game of the Year

By Luis Guzman

2013 was a horrible year for people’s social lives and students’ grades. Besides that horrible fact, only was this the year of great games, but it also was the year of the next generation console.

It’s hard to pick one game to be crowned “X-Static Radio: Game of the Year”. Before we name the 2013 game of the year, we’ll throw out a runner-up to the game of the year.

Please don’t hate me on the decision I’m going to make, it’s difficult to pick from list of many great games.

When I learned that Naughty Dog revealed that they were working on Last of Us in 2011, I literally cried. I loved what they did with the Uncharted series, and knowing the level of work they put into those games, I know we were getting one of the best games in recent years.

Last of Us won the VGA's for best PS3 game, Best voice actor (Troy Baker) and Best Female voice actress (Ashely Johnson). Last of Us was also nominated for Game of the Year and Best Soundtrack.

Splurging through so many trailers and articles, nothing prepared me for what I was going to experience when I got my hands on the game. The story thrilling and kept on the edge of my seat. The characters were interesting and the world was so believable. Naughty Dog presented a gritty believable world with characters that were fleshed out.

Of all the games that really captivated not only my attention, but the attention of everyone in the gaming world has to be Grand Theft Auto V.

This game deserves the ultimate title of “X-Static Radio: 2013 Game of the Year”. The scope of the game is incredible to say the least.

GTA 5 was broke records as one of the fastest selling video games, 800 million in the first 24 hours, as well as being the first entertainment release to reach a billion dollars in just three days.

You have the culmination of what made Grand Theft Auto great all in one small disk. The graphics were jaw-dropping, the things you can do in the game were so over-whelming.

You can swim with some damn sharks, see UFO’s, or catch glimpses of ghosts. And that’s not even the tip of the iceberg.

I actually felt like what I did in the game actually impacted the world of Los Santos.

The cars in the game were actually fun to drive, thanks to Franklin’s badass ability to slow time while driving. I felt cool and collected with Michael’s ability to shoot down people in slow-mo. Trevor’s ability to take less damage and deal more damage, made me feel indestructible.

I can go on and on about the game, but that would take an eternity to do. Just pick up this masterpiece of  a game now.
